Man City v Liverpool – City need the perfect game
One of the biggest matches of the season will be Man City v Liverpool and Pep Guardiola insists Manchester City will be able to knock Liverpool out of the Champions League.
The former Barcelona and Bayern Munich boss admits that the Premier League leaders will have to play a “perfect game” if they are to progress to the semi-finals after slumping to a 3-0 defeat at Anfield in last week’s first leg.
City, who missed the chance to clinch the Premier League title on Saturday when they lost 3-2 at home to Manchester United despite leading 2-0 at half time, would have to score five goals if Liverpool were to grab a goal at the Etihad Stadium.
However, Guardiola has faith in the quality of City’s attack, saying: “Of course, to go through you have to make almost the perfect game – create chances, be clinical and concede few chances. All the conditions have to be perfect to go through.
“But you have 90 minutes and in football everything can happen. We are going to try to we will see.
“We have to score the first one, then make the second one. We will see. We need the momentum. We have to focus on what we do. If we concede a goal, don’t give up.
“In a short time we can create chances and after that you have to be clinical. And if we are not clinical, okay, next one, next one, next one.”
