Andy Murray still aiming for Wimbledon 2018

By odds24

Wimbledon 2018 is almost here and two-time champion Andy Murray retains hopes that he will be able to return to action in time.

Murray has been side-lined since losing to Sam Querrey in the quarter-finals at SW19 last July, with a long-term hip problem forcing him to undergo surgery in January.

I am still aiming to play in the coming weeks, but I want to be 100 per cent when I do return.

He does still have hopes of being able to feature at Wimbledon, though, even if he will be perilously short of match practice.

Murray confirmed via Facebook: “I am not quite ready to return. I am still aiming to play in the coming weeks, but I want to be 100 per cent when I do return.

“It is with regret that I won’t be ready to play in Hertogenbosch. I was excited to play there for the first time.

“It’s been very slow, I’ve been out getting close to a year now, which is a lot longer than me or any of my team expected at the beginning.

“But I’m getting closer to playing again. I started training a few days ago and am hoping to make my comeback during the grass court season.”

Murray claimed the Wimbledon title in both 2013 and 2016 and has reached at least the quarter-finals every year since 2008.

However there is still a very big question mark over if he’ll make Wimbledon this year with recovery ‘very slow’ going and he were unable to compete at Rosmalen or at the Fever-Tree Championships at Queen’s the following week, then he would surely not risk making his comeback in a best-of-five-sets event like Wimbledon.

He is available at 15/2 to win Wimbledon later this summer, with defending champion Roger Federer 6/4 and 2017 runner-up Marin Cilic 12/1.
