Six Nations Rugby – Azzurri urged to give their all

By odds24

Six Nations In Full Swing – Italy head coach Conor O’Shea admits that even producing their best performance may not be enough to defeat England in the Six Nations.

The Azzurri will go into the game against the two-time defending champions having not won in the tournament since 2015, where they overcame Scotland 22-19 at Murrayfield.

With their stalwarts gradually retiring, they have had to find new blood but it may take time for them become competitive once more.

Although O’Shea believes that they are going in the right direction, the former Harlequins’ boss insists that the Red Rose may be too strong.

Alessandro ZanniHe said: “I’m confident that we will play well. If we play our best and England play their best, England win, but our job is to play our best. That’s not being defeatist. We’re going to prepare to win and do everything we can to win because that’s what every sportsperson does.

“What we control is our performance but we’ve got to make sure we go out and fire a few shots ourselves. Hopefully what people see is that there’s been an improvement for the last 12 months in our franchises and in the type of player coming through.

“We’ve got a much younger squad now, we’ve got some depth and competition and we’ll see; we’ll give it the best we have.

“Everything we’re trying to do is implement change but change takes time. We have a job to do to turn around a big tanker and I think the performances of the franchises, with the young players coming through, are the signs you look for.”

Jayden Hayward is 11/1 to be Italy’s Top Tryscorer in the Six Nations while Giulio Bisegni can be backed at 14/1.
