Englishman Justin Rose is eager to go one better than last year and win a second career Major by triumphing in the Masters at Augusta.
Former US Open winner and reigning Olympic champion Justin Rose came within an ace of securing the Green Jacket 12 months ago, only to be denied in a play-off by long-term Ryder Cup colleague Sergio Garcia.
You cannot be on leaderboards at big tournaments all the time and have things go your way all the time.
And he admits that missing out was a painful experience, one he is eager not to repeat this weekend.
He told reporters: “It was really, really painful, but you cannot be on leaderboards at big tournaments all the time and have things go your way all the time.
“So, from my point of view, Olympic golf, US Open at Merion, those kinds of moments had gone my way up until then. This was the first time it had gone against me and I know Sergio had suffered that many times. So it was just his time.”
However, on the positive side of things, Rose is looking to the examples of Adam Scott and Jordan Spieth, who have both won the Masters a year after finishing in the runner-up spot.
He added: “Look at how the runners-up have done in recent years. Adam Scott finished runner-up and went on to win. Jordan Spieth was runner-up the year before he won.
“When I go to Augusta I feel so good there. It hasn’t dampened my enthusiasm for being there. I really love the place.”
