Toby Alderweireld unsure over Tottenham Hotspur future

By odds24

Tottenham Hotspur player Toby Alderweireld is unsure if he will be a beyond this summer after being omitted from the first-team last season.

The 29-year-old was restricted to just 14 Premier League appearances after missing a spell of action because of hamstring problems and then being left out of the line-up when he returned to fitness.

There were suggestions that Alderweireld’s reluctance to pen a new deal at the club beyond summer 2019 was the reason behind his omission from the starting XI.

Alderweireld unsure over Tottenham Hotspur future“I really know nothing. In my head, I’m just going back to Tottenham Hotspur. We’ll see”. However, Spurs boss Mauricio Pochettino claimed his loss of form was behind the decision to play Davinson Sanchez alongside Jan Vertonghen as his preferred central defensive partnership.

Alderweireld responded positively to his frustration in north London by impressing for Belgium at the World Cup this summer as he played in six matches to help Roberto Martinez’s side finish third at the tournament in Russia.

He said: “I wanted to prove something to me, show that the period before the tournament in which I, for whatever reason, did not play, it was unjustified.

“I wanted to show that I’m still Toby, same as in November.”

Alderweireld’s performances have resulted in speculation that the likes of Manchester United and Paris Saint-Germain are vying for his signature.

And, while the former Atletico Madrid man is all set to go back to Tottenham following his summer break, he would not rule out the possibility of moving on to pastures new ahead of the 9th August deadline.

When asked about his future, Alderweireld said: “I really know nothing. In my head, I’m just going back to Tottenham. We’ll see.”

It remains to be seen if Alderweireld will still be at Spurs when their Premier League season gets up and running against Newcastle at St James’ Park on 11th August.

Spurs, who are 16/1 to win the title in 2018-19, are 11/10 to pick up three points on Tyneside, while the Magpies are priced at 12/5.
