FA CUP – Poch plays down trophy talk
Can Spurs Win the FA Cup This Year ?
Tottenham Hotspur head coach Mauricio Pochettino says he feels under no pressure to try to deliver silverware this season.
Having finished in the top three in the Premier League in both of the last two seasons, Spurs seem ideally set to end a wait for a trophy which stretches back almost exactly a decade to their League Cup success of 2008.
To arrive to win we need to create a winning mentality around the players, around the team.
However, Pochettino has played down the importance of making the next step, as he prepares his side for an FA Cup fourth round replay against Newport County.
He told his pre-match press conference: ” Of course, we want to win trophies. I won as a player and I know how you feel after winning. Of course, our intention and desire is to win.
“But I’m not obsessing – win, win, win, win. Of course, we want to win, but to arrive to win we need to create a winning mentality around the players, around the team.
“For that, you need time. You never know if it’s one year, two years, five years. I only know we’re in a good way.”
Pochettino is set to welcome back central defender Toby Alderweireld for the Wembley action on Wednesday evening, with the Belgium international having been out for three months due to a hamstring injury.
The Argentinian is likely to make a number of changes from the side who drew 2-2 at Liverpool on Sunday, with Danny Rose, Harry Winks, Victor Wanyama, Erik Lamela, Fernando Llorente and Serge Aurier all in line for starts.
Tottenham can be backed at 9/2 to lift the FA Cup this season, with Manchester City 2/1 and Manchester United 7/2.
