Jose Mourinho claims speculation suggesting that his relationship with Manchester United star Paul Pogba has broken down are ‘lies’.
Man United chief manager spoke out on Pogba ahead of his side’s FA Cup 5th tie at Premier League Huddersfield Town on Saturday evening.
When you say ‘a lot of speculation’ you should say a lot of lies. Because I accept and Paul accepts that he has not been playing well in the last few matches. But that’s all.
The 24-year-old Pogba the french international has been out of form in recent games as United slipped to defeats at Tottenham and Newcastle, while he was left out of the recent league win against Huddersfield.
Reports claim Pogba is unhappy about being asked to play in a midfield role alongside Matic instead of being allowed to sit in a more attacking role, while there is speculation that Real Madrid will make a bid to sign him this summer.
Mourinho has now hit back and said at his Friday afternoon press conference: “When you say ‘a lot of speculation’ you should say a lot of lies. Because I accept and Paul accepts that he has not been playing well in the last few matches. But that’s all.
“So, be objective and say what we all know: in the last couple of matches he didn’t play well. Period. End of story. Now, it’s my problem and Paul’s problem to deal with it and try to improve his performance level.”
Mourinho confirmed that Pogba will start against Huddersfield at the John Smith’s Stadium, while Eric Bailly is set to return to the defence having recovered from the ankle injury which has sidelined him since November.
However Herrera and Marcus Rashford are both definitely out of the game.
United are 4/9 to win on Saturday, while David Wagner’s Huddersfield side are 7/1 to emulate their home league win against United and the draw is available at 15/4.
