Champions League – Neymar a doubt for Real showdown

Neymar has suffered a fractured foot and could miss Paris Saint-Germain’s round of 16 Champions League second leg clash against Real Madrid.

It had initially been thought that the 26-year-old Brazilian had sustained a broken ankle during PSG’s 3-0 Ligue 1 win over Marseille on Sunday.

The French team’s boss Unai Emery said after the match that he thought Neymar would be fit enough to face last season’s Champions League winners, who won the first leg 3-1, in the French capital on 6th March.will Neymar face real MadridHowever, PSG released a statement on Monday that suggested Neymar would miss the second leg. It read: “Examinations performed today (ultrasound and CT) confirmed an anterior external sprain of the right ankle but also the associated existence of a fissure of the fifth metatarsal.”

Neymar has been linked with Real Madrid for much of this season following his €222million switch to the French capital from Barcelona last summer.

In addition to Neymar’s injury, PSG have also confirmed that centre-back Marquinhos picked up a thigh problem against Marseille. He is also expected to miss the second leg against Real Madrid at the Parc des Princes.

Adrien Rabiot put the Ligue 1 leaders in front in the first leg only for Real to respond with a Cristiano Ronaldo brace and a late Marcelo strike.

PSG are 9/4 to qualify for the last eight of the Champions League and 10/1 to win the competition outright.
