With the Champions League final looming, Real Madrid boss Zinedine Zidane says Gareth Bale’s performance in Saturday’s 6-0 win over Celta Vigo has given him a tough decision to make fo the final.
The Wales international has found himself in and out of Zidane’s starting line-up this season due to a combination of injuries and a lack of form, playing a bit part role in Real’s run to the Champions League Final.
However, the former Tottenham forward looked back to his best in Real’s penultimate La Liga game of the season, scoring a brilliant brace as Los Blancos ran riot against Celta.
Having also taken his goal in last week’s El Clasico nicely, Zidane admits it is great to see Bale find some form ahead of the Champions League final at the end of the month.
“He is very good, he has shown that. He was good at everything tonight,” said Zidane. “I am happy for him. But the important thing is that we all arrive in optimal form.”
Toni Kroos, Isco and Achraf Hakimi were also on target for Real in their final game of the season at the Bernabeu, while the likes of Cristiano Ronaldo and Sergio Ramos missed the clash but will expect to return for the final.
Zidane says the performance of his team has left him with some tough calls to make for the showpiece clash against Liverpool in Kiev.
“I don’t know my team yet [for the final] but it’s better to have everyone plugged in,” added the Frenchman.
“Then, of course, it will be a headache to select the team for the final.
“We had a great game and that was important. We were professional, scoring six goals and playing a lot of football. We did very well.”
Real are looking to win a third successive Champions League title against a Liverpool side contesting their first final in 11 years.
