PDC – Taylor sets up perfect finale

By odds24

Phil Taylor will bow out of darts on the biggest stage of all when he takes on Rob Cross in the final of the PDC World Championship at the Ally Pally.

The 16-time world champion will retire after his clash with Cross on New Year’s Day, having enjoyed a dream run to the final in his last tournament.

He disposed of Chris Dobey in round one, before claiming victories over Justin Pipe, Keegan Brown and Gary Anderson to reach the semi-finals, where he overpowered Jamie Lewis 6-1.

And Taylor accepts that he is slightly surprised to have reached the final, telling the official PDC website: “It’s surreal to be honest with you, it’s like I’m not even here – it’s like winning the lottery.

“It will be massive and the best thing for me is I’ve got a day off so I can rest up.”

Taylor is priced at 4/5 win the final and is 8/1 to claim a 7-3 victory, while The Power can be backed at 13/2 to secure the title in a final-set decider.

Meanwhile, Cross is excited about the prospect of taking on Taylor, having enjoyed a dream first full season on the PDC circuit, culminating in a 6-5 semi-final win over holder Michael van Gerwen.

He added: “I will come out (in the final) and want to win.

“He (Taylor) is my favourite player. It’s going to be special for him, but at the same time I’ve got to do my own job and do what I need to do to win that game.

“I never expected this, it’s amazing, absolutely amazing. I never expected this rise, I really didn’t.”
