England v India 2018 Test Match Preview

England v India 2018 is always a highly competitive affair and batsman Jonny Bairstow and fast bowler Stuart Broad are preparing themselves for a tough time in a five-match Test series.

The first Test of five gets under way at Edgbaston on Wednesday 1st August, with the two sides having been evenly matched in their limited-overs contests.

England won the ODI series 2-1, with India having earlier taken the honours by the same scoreline in the T20 clashes.

And Bairstow is excited about the challenge ahead against the team currently at the top of the official ICC Test rankings.

He told the Evening Standard: “It’s going to be tough. They are No.1 in the world, but we are in our home conditions. It’s hugely exciting with five Tests not three Tests, which I look forward to much more.

“The series can swing wildly, people dip in and out of form, everyone has to contribute.”

Meanwhile, Broad, who has taken 54 wickets at an average of 24.48 in 15 previous Tests against India, is also relishing the nature of the challenge of trying to overcome the tourists across a full five-match series.

He added: “It is a huge series, we know the quality of their team.

“You only have to look down their one-day team and they have all bases covered. You get a very similar feeling with their red-ball team.

“They completely outplayed us in India in 2016 and I think they are playing a pretty similar side, very much a team (captain) Virat Kohli has put together and is driving forward.”
